How to choose Dining Furniture!

fhd line.png
It's not that long ago, that you’d walk into a large furniture store and just choose a dining table and chairs as a set. Not only is it now harder than ever to find somewhere to actually see  furniture before you purchase, but also buying a “set” is no longer the way to go. So what do you do? Where do you start? I thought I would pull together my thoughts on how I go about selecting these items for my clients and in my own home.

When I’m looking at tables and chairs I am considering how they will “speak” to each other without being a set. My first tip is to not try and match something that doesn’t match. So if you have a light oak table, don’t try and find light oak chairs that will match it. More often than not the wood tones are slightly different and it will not achieve the cohesive look you are after. Instead try and contrast the table and chairs, so for example a wooden table with some metal dining chairs.

When it comes to the legs we don’t want them to feel like they are clashing. If you have a table that is very heavy and blocked, then try and go light on the legs of your chairs. Similarly if you have dining chairs that are very chunky, try and go for lighter width legs on the table.

Also, don’t be scared to mix your wood types and colours. This can feel really daunting, but adding in different colour woods will simply add depth and warmth to your space, so try not to get too worried about it. You can also mix and match your dining chairs, why not try 2 contrasting chairs on the ends of the table?
