The Biggest Interior Design Mistakes (and how to avoid them!)
The amount of times I hear clients say "It just doesn't look right" or "I thought it would look better" and then they ask for help! How about we just don't make those mistakes in the first place? Let me share with you a couple of my top tips!
The biggest mistake I see time and time again is not having a vision! If you don't know what you're aiming for then how will you ever be able to pull together a space you love? You end up picking up bits and bobs here and there, that don't end up going with each other, and usually by the time you've realised what's happened, it's turned into an expensive mistake! Moodboards are the perfect way to plan your space, whether digital or physical spend some time creating a scheme that you love and it will turn into a plan you can stick to!
Next up is following trends - its a great idea to add in elements of updated interior trends, but your home needs to foremostly be a functional and stylish representation of who you are, so try not to get too distracted by the latest fad!
Lighting is another area that a lot of people either seem to forget about or add in at the end! Your lighting should be layered, which is to say different levels, ceiling lights, wall lights, floor lamps and table lamps. This way you can play with the lighting to create different types of atmosphere! It's also super important to make the most out of the natural light that you have!
Lastly, and in my opinion, most importantly, always take into account the scale of your room! Rugs that are too small, artwork that looks lost on a wall, beds that are too big for the room - size really does matter!!
