How to choose a paint colour with 3 simple questions!
Are you struggling to choose paint colours? Are you fed up of all the tester pots? Then lets nail it for you, in 3 easy questions!!
First up, before we start, it would be great if you could have a colour chart to hand (ideally one with at least 100 colours in) to make this process a little easier.
Which way does your room face?
Northern light will make your room feel cold and Southern light will make your room feel warm. If you are East / West or anything in between, then work out at what time of day you will be using the space and decide on a direction your room faces.
Do you want to make your space feel cool or warm?
If you want cool then you will be looking at greys / blues / whites with undertones of grey. Cooler rooms are great for more of a modern / fresh feel. They are great for bathrooms, hallways, or any rooms that may feel hot or stuffy.
If you want a warmer space, then think about greens / pinks / whites with undertones of yellow. Warmer rooms are great for making a space feel cosy. They are great for rooms that naturally feel a little cool, bedrooms and living rooms.
Do you want a bold, middle or pale colour?
Bold paints are great for engulfing a room and making them feel cosy and warm - they will create a real statement. Think snugs, downstairs WC's.
Middle paints are great for adding colour to a room without being too over the top. You will notice the colour but it won't be too overwhelming. These are great in bedrooms, children's rooms and bathrooms.
Pale paints are great for creating a calming atmosphere. These are great in spaces where you don't want the paint to be the main feature. They are great in spaces where you have a lovely architectural feature, a beautiful kitchen or lots of outdoor space that you'd like to be a focus.
Hopefully now you will have managed to narrow down your paint choices! You can now go through an eliminate any colours that you just don't like, or for whatever reason just don't sit nicely with you! Once you have around 5 options, you can get some tester pots, paint up some A4 sheets of paper and place them around your space! Remember to put a sample of each paint on each wall - the paint will look different on each wall, so make sure you like it on all of them!!
